| Sumario: | Puppet theatre is a recurrent motif in Ana María Matute's literary career. In order to analyse the universality and originality of this motif in Paraíso inhabitado (2008), an intertextual and interdiscursive analysis is carried out in which it is placed in dialogue with two works mentioned in the novel: The Nutcracker (Hoffmann 1816, Tchaikovsky 1892), and Petrushka (Stravinsky 1911). The theatricality of the world of adults, the creation of a world of their own and puppets as a form of communication are facets that speak to us of the uniqueness of Ana María Matute's world; the motif of the puppet theatre shows us a universal content expressed in an original way, and becomes a refuge amidst the loneliness of childhood and the incomprehension of adults. |
