| Sumario: | Ferulic acid (FA), a natural antioxidant, has been encapsulated in nanoparticles (NPs) made from ethylcellulose (EC), a biocompatible polymer, using nano-emulsions prepared via phase-inversion composition (PIC) method. To control film forming and release properties, Tributyl citrate (TBC) and Miglyol812 (a mixture of medium-chain triglycerides) have been utilized as EC plasticizers. The EC nanoparticles exhibited diameters in the range of 100-130 nm and appropriate colloidal stability. The EC NPs featured high FA encapsulation efficiencies, and sustained FA release, that can be fitted to kinetic models such as first-order and Peppas-Salhin. EC NPs did not show cytotoxicity when incubated with HeLa cells. These results are promising for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. |
