| Sumario: | The Attorney General’s Office’s report was presented at the opening ceremony of the judicial year in 2023. The report showed an impressive increase in violent crimes committed by young people, especially serious homicides and sexual assaults. The prosecutors attribute the increase, among other reasons, to a trivialization of violence. After outlining how the different sources of official data on juvenile delinquency in Spain are compiled, this paper analyses the data on homicides and sexual crimes presented by the Prosecutor's Office and contextualises them using longer time series and other official data sources. Thispaper examines the data presented in the report of the Public Prosecutor's Office using longer time series and other official data sources to verify this trend. The findings show that the increase is not as abrupt as crimes have increased but aftermore than a decade of decline. Trends in violent juvenile delinquency in Spain are discussed in relation to specialized literature. |
