Eight of these sculptures were sent to Toledo in 1787. This paper proposes to make an interpretation of them from the iconographic program of Father Sarmiento, the testimonies of ancient travelers —from Hans Christian Andersen to Benito Pérez Galdós— and historical images which allow documenting their state of preservation. |
