| Sumario: | [eng] Introduction: Alcohol consumption is linked to the development of various diseases, including obesity. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out on 60798 workers in which the relationship between high alcohol consumption and the appearance of overweight and obesity determined with different scales (BMI, waist to height ratio, body roundness index, body shape index, visceral adiposity index, conicity index and scales predicting body fat) was assessed. Results: The mean values and the prevalence of obesity as determined by the different scales are higher among people who consume high amounts of alcohol. The multivariate analysis shows that alcohol consumption is one of the factors that most increase the risk of obesity. Conclusion: Excessive alcohol consumption increases all the parameters related to overweight and obesity in Spanish workers |
