But this is only a capillary manifestation of a much broader phenomenon embedded in the roots of modernity and its call to violence as destiny. This chapter explores, through Batman, the connection between the contemporary hero and nihilism. It begins with a comparative study of the most paradigmatic “vigilantes” in modernity, starting with Don Quixote and continuing with some major characters of the 19th-century Russian novel, especially Dostoevsky’s Raskolnikov. Quite the opposite of eccentric, all these heroes are “ultra-centric” because they are obsessed with the lost and are therefore declared enemies of the diversity that emerges from that change. A reference will then be made to the relation between Batman and the Gothic novel as a counter-romantic symbolic setting of the nihilism that possesses these monsters.RoutledgeUniversidad Complutense de Madrid20242024-01-0120242024-01-01book parthttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_3248VoRhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85info:eu-repo/semantics/bookPartapplication/pdfhttps://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14352/129733reponame:Docta Complutenseinstname:Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM)InglésengMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovación http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100004837 Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2017-2020 PID2020-113413RB-C31 LA CONTEMPORANEIDAD CLASICA Y SU DISLOCACION: DE WEBER A FOUCAULTFundación BBVA Ayudas a Proyectos de Investigación Científica Filosofía 2021 Not available EL PROBLEMA DE LA IDENTIDAD PERSONAL EN LOS PERSONAJES DE FICCIÓNopen accesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessoai:docta.ucm.es:20.500.14352/1297332026-06-02T12:44:21Z
