Sumario:Worship spaces are meeting places where acoustics must be suitable to perceive the word as well as the music. Therefore, for this reason, it is important to know the acoustic behavior of both cases and the differences that happen according to the activity being performed. In this respect, virtual models have proven to be a very efficient instrument to study the behavior of buildings in different aspects, allowing to recreate the sensory experiences that transmit these spaces. The Basilica of Santa Maria is the stage where the representation of the Misteri d'Elx takes place every year. It is a musical medieval play declared as National Monument in 1931, included in the first Proclamation of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001, and inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. Due to its importance, both the Basilica of Santa Maria and the Misteri have been the object of numerous studies. However, all of them have focused mainly on the history and evolution of the representation or the formal aspect of the building, leaving aside the acoustics of a space where sound is fundamental. This work includes an exhaustive study of the acoustic behavior of the Basilica for its two main uses: the celebration of the cult and the representation of the Misteri d'Elx using virtual acoustics, analyzing the influence of the spatial changes introduced and the presence of the public, and identifying the singularities of the application of this tool in historic buildings, and more specifically in worship spaces. In addition, from recordings made with the singers and escolania of the Misteri, and the construction and texturization of a virtual model of the Basilica, this thesis initiates the procedure to obtain a complete visual and sound virtualization of the Basilica of Santa Maria and The Misteri d'Elx which has not been performed so far and will allow to interact from anywhere with both architectural heritage and intangible heritage related to it.
