Sumario:As a concept "re-coined" in recent decades, the review of public space serves as theoretical framework to analyze, explain and interpret the amazing transformation of Medellln since the tum of the century, based on processes of creation and renewal of its public space infrastructure. Despite being a transformation with increasing reputation as an exemplary case of urban regeneration, fairly publicized, printed and prize-winner, its explanatory factors are yet scarce. Consequently, the present research MEDELLIN:REPOWERED PUBLIC SPACE. Case study: Northeast Integral Urban Project (2004-2007), aims to explain and highlight one of the most importanT operations undertaken in the city, tracing its originally that of other recent procedures experiences that appeared over three decades ago to address marginal areas, which tumed public space into core issue of urban upgrading thereon. lt also presents the ideas, background and multiple tools that guided the 2004 operation, highlightlng its central interest on the design project, its value as pilot experience, and reference as support for a method construction alter more than a decade implemenlation; an opportunity to take a close look at the performance of each of the 23 projects found, thus reviewing public space discourses to be contrasted with their real effects.
