| Sumario: | You recently received a letter containing a series of criticisms from Dr. Agustín Estrada-Pena, ˜ professor at the University of Zaragoza (Spain), of our paper entitled “Patterns of adult tick parasitization of coexisting European (Erinaceus europaeus) and Algerian (Atelerix algirus) hedgehog populations in eastern Iberia” published in Ticks and Tickborne Diseases in 2022, with the suggestion that the article be retracted after publication. The reasons given by Dr. Estrada-Pena ˜ included, in his opinion, (1) the lack of reliable identifications of the ticks collected in the study, (2) the questionable treatment of weather data, (3) lack of explanation of the protocols employed in the work, and (4) the absence of supplementary material with the study database and the availability of voucher specimens of the collected ticks. After an exhaustive and thorough review of the criticisms leveled against our work, we believe that they are either unfounded and refutable or caused by subjective interpretations of the information provided in the text. |
