| Sumario: | [EN]This study examines the renewal of funerary epigraphy in the Andalusian nobility during the Modern Age through the pantheon of the adelantados de Andalucía, promoted by Fadrique Enríquez de Ribera. This pantheon represents the aristocratic quest to perpetuate the memory of the lineage through the transformation of funerary spaces into propagandistic scenarios aimed at noble legitimisation. In these enclosures, the functional value of sepulchral epitaphs can be seen as an integral part of an ambitious epigraphic programme that underlines the importance of the values of chivalry and religiosity. The adoption of a graphic system such as the humanistic capital script, inspired by the classical Roman tradition, adds an ideological dimension that seeks to connect the deceased with heroic ideals. In this sense, the Enriquez pantheon not only preserves family memory, but also acts as a palpable testimony to the characteristic nobiliary discourse of Renaissance Spain. |
