Utilizing the theoretical framework of appraisal proposed by Martin and White (2005), this research meticulously analyzes a corpus of report sauthored by PhD thesis examiners, focusing on the nuanced linguistic mechanisms associated with attitude and engagement expressions. Specifically, the study explores three sub-categories of attitude: affect, appreciation, and judgment, and two subcategories of engagement: contractive and expansive resources.
