Synergies and Capitalisation StrategiesGarrabou, JoaquimMarambio, Macarenahttp://metadata.un.org/sdg/14Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development26 pages, 10 figuresThis report presents the synergies and capitalisation strategies developed within the MPA4Change project. The document outlines a structured and evidence-based process to identify, analyse, and operationalise collaboration with relevant projects and initiatives, while maximising the reuse, transfer, and scaling-up of knowledge, tools, and best practices. The capitalisation process was implemented through three sequential phases. First, a comprehensive mapping identifi ed 56 ongoing and completed initiatives related to climate change adaptation and ecosystem restoration, predominantly funded by European programmes and operating at international or Mediterranean-wide scales. Second, these initiatives were characterised and analysed to assess their relevance to MPA4Change thematic priorities, resulting in the identifi cation of 101 potentially transferable practices and tools spanning MPA management, monitoring protocols, citizen science, participatory approaches, and vulnerability assessments. Third, the analysis assessed concrete synergies, distinguishing between tools and practices adopted by MPA4Change and tools and practices exported or exported by MPA4Change to other projects and initiatives. Results demonstrate that MPA4Change eff ectively functions both as a benefi ciary and a generator of knowledge. Of the 101 identifi ed transferable practices, 29 were adopted by MPA4Change and integrated into its toolkits, particularly in the areas of MPA management, monitoring, and citizen science. At the same time, 36 practices developed within MPA4Change were exported to other projects and initiatives, with a high level of implementation achieved within a relatively short project timeframe. This dual process confi rms the project’s added value in avoiding duplication, enhancing complementarity, and increasing the coherence and scalability of climate adaptation and restoration actions. The culmination of this capitalisation eff ort is the creation of the 100MPA MedAlliance, a long-term collaborative initiative designed to support the integration of climate adaptation strategies in 100 Mediterranean MPAs by 2030. Built on validated toolkits, a dedicated roster of experts, and strong policy and advocacy alignment, the alliance provides a sustainable mechanism to ensure the continuity, replication, and impact of MPA4Change outcomes beyond the project’s lifespan. Overall, this deliverable demonstrates that systematic synergies and capitalisation are not only essential for eff ective project implementation but also critical for achieving durable, basin-wide impacts in Mediterranean MPA governance and climate resilience. This work contributes to the Institut de Ciències del Mar "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence" accreditation CEX2024-001494-S funded by AEI 10.13039/501100011033 of the Spanish Ministry of Science and InnovationPeer reviewedMPA4ChangeAgencia Estatal de Investigación (España)European CommissionConsejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas [https://ror.org/02gfc7t72]202620262025info:eu-repo/semantics/otherhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_18ghPublisher's versioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/reporthttp://hdl.handle.net/10261/428203reponame:DIGITAL.CSIC.
