The sunken block was probably emerged during the Late Liassic and Middle Jurassic, so that the breccias are underlied by the Lower Liassic Gavilan FmEn la externa Subbética, en la brecha gruesa del Alto Jurásico organizaron cuerpos sedimentarios biconvexos con progradación al oeste, que están genéticamente relacionados con las fallas transversales N-S que afectan a la cuenca al final del medio jurásico. Las brechas fueron, probablemente, depositadas sobre un bloque hundido desplazado hacia el norte con respecto a las unidades paleográficas septentrionales, cuyas series estratigráficas formaron un área de fuente principal.
