| Resumo: | Without denying the particular characteristics of the European Union's (EU) enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), this chapter shows that there are significant similarities with past cases, especially with those of Britain (1961-1962 and 1969-1973) and Spain (1978-1986) with regard to the negotiations in the agricultural sector. Their compared analysis provides interesting insights into how EU policies change (or remain stable) to accommodate new members. It also exemplifies how the theoretical framework of historical new institutionalism combined with a policy networks approach can be used to study an international organization’s enlargement. |
