| Sumario: | Colorectal cancer (CRC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are among the types of malignancies with major incidence and mortality worldwide. Overweight and obesity have been linked to a higher risk of developing these pathologies, due to the existence of common mechanisms such as chronic inflammation. Dysbiosis or imbalance of the gut microbiota seems to actively participate in oncogenesis, both at a local level and in distant locations like the lungs. Telomere dysfunction, namely the shortening of telomeres, has also been associated with cancer pathogeny and to the development of cancer-related diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other types of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). Moreover, evidence exists of dysregulation in microRNA (miRNA or miR) expression in various diseases like obesity and neoplasms.
