Resumo:This thesis explores Emotional Architecture as a foundation for understanding the intangible qualities of Architecture—such as identity, culture, and emotional resonance—and their relevance in contemporary design. While Modernism was criticized for prioritizing functionality over human connection, Parametricism, a computationally driven architectural style, faces similar challenges, often overlooking the experiential and cultural dimensions of space. To address this, the study analyzes how Emotional Architecture, which emerged in 20th century Mexico as a response to modernist limitations, reintroduced memory, identity, and sensory engagement into the built environment. By examining its principles and their capacity to preserve intangible qualities, this research establishes a framework to assess and integrate these aspects into contemporary architectural discourse. As part of this approach, the ECA Framework (Emotional-Cultural-Attachment) is introduced as a methodological tool to evaluate how Architecture can embed emotional depth, cultural identity, and spatial attachment within computational design. Through a comparative analysis of architectural movements and case studies—including works by Luis Barragán and Zaha Hadid—this research applies the ECA Framework to explore strategies for ensuring that intangible qualities are not lost in Parametricism. The findings propose a design approach that balances technological advancements with human-centered experiences, reinforcing the role of emotion in contemporary architecture.
