| Sumario: | This article examines the dual literay identity of the Mexican poet, narrator and essayist Manuel Gutierrez Nájera. He appears, on the one hand, as a Romantic epigone in Latin America and yet he also shows an intuitive approach to what became known later in his life as "fin de siécle Modernism". Produced during a time of cultural and literary transition, Gutiérrez Nájera´s work displays a sense of ambivalence -the usual shift perceived at every turning point in history. |
