Sumario:Clitic doubling phenomena are closely related to the notion of ‘topic’. Thus, this notion is going to be the tool used in this paper in order to analize, across the corpus, the grammaticalization process turning the clitic into an agreement affix. Moreover, the data will show that topicality is not only a key notion dealing with the doubled object itself, but with the whole sentence, so that the subject’s low degree of topicality will be argued as one of the non helping factors for clitic doubling during its evolution.
