| Sumario: | The hydrographic divide between the Ebro basin and the Catalan Internal Drainage Basins, in the NE of the Iberian Peninsula, is a good area to analyze the characteristics of torrential transport on two different types of drainage basins under a very similar climatic environment. These two types are a dip stream drainage basin (Ondara) and an anti-dip stream drainage basin (Anoia). Pleistocene deposits on the dip slope (Ondara) and those formed by anti-dip streams (Anoia) are analyzed and compared. Deposits are multistorey accumulations of heterometrical clasts showing erosive bases. They are interpreted as the result of confined and unconfined, highly energetic, high density, and ephemeral tractive aqueous transport that could have been produced by similar flows to those of flash flood type. Despite the spatial proximity, there are marked differences between the deposits of both rivers. In the Anoia River basin, accumulations show a higher energy level and a greater clast heterometry, compared to those from the Ondara River basin. These characteristics are basically due to the greater gradient of the drainage basin (1.6 times higher) that increases the speed and energy of the tractive flow. |
