| Sumario: | [eng] In Mallorca Island the collection and storage of snow was an economic traditional activity, lasting until the first decades of 20th century. This activity usually took place in specific installations built up in the highest mountains of the island, but some adequate small natural pits were also used. Eleven potholes probably related to snow trade are documented nowadays, five of them showing unequivocal evidences of human interventions linked to those tasks. The description and survey of these localities are presented in this paper, in order to contribute to the knowledge of ethnologic heritage in Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Among the investigated cavities, the Clot de Neu Gran de sa Rateta (-16 m) undoubtedly outstands owing to the important anthropic adaptations existing inside it; this pothole hosts an inner stonewall seven metres high together with some other minor modifications performed to take profit to the cavity for snow storage |
