Descripción
Sumario:[EN]The extension of the millones tax represented an extraordinary source of funding for the monarchy and, at the same time, a privileged channel through which members of voting municipal councils in the Cortes could access royal favor. The Crown systematically and extensively granted a wide array of rewards in recognition of this service, with the bestowal of the habits of Castilian military orders standing out above all others. This study analyzes the distribution of these rewards in connection with the aforementioned tax extensions between 1685 and 1705, shedding light on the granting policies implemented by Charles II and Philip V, as well as the tangible impact these rewards had on the composition of the corps of knights within the military orders.
