Design/Methodology/Approach. The data were exported to an ad-hoc database with a relational structure. The sample consisted of 128 publications. The data analysis was carried out by means of a coding process with a categorical system developed ad-hoc and using the SPSS V 21 programme. Results/Discussion. The production of scientific articles related to photo elicitation in the field of education has been on the rise since 2008. With regard to the distribution of authors by gender, the presence of women is greater and more constant than that recorded in other studies where men have a greater production. The institutions of affiliation are diverse. Conclusions. From the first recorded publication to the present day, this type of study has grown considerably, although it is still residual compared to other qualitative research techniques such as interviews or focus groups. Originality/Value. This article highlights an emerging research technique in the field of qualitative research in education, namely photo-elicitationObjetivo. El objetivo es cuantificar y trazar cronológicamente la producción de artículos científicos indexados en la base de datos del Journal Citation Report relacionados con la utilización de la foto elicitación como metodología de investigación en el ámbito de la educación. Diseño/Metodología/Enfoque. Se ha realizado un estudio descriptivo longitudinal retrospectivo. Los datos se han exportado a una base de datos ad-hoc de estructura relacional. La muestra la conforman 128 publicaciones. El análisis de los datos se realiza mediante un proceso de codificación con un sistema categorial elaborado ad-hoc y utilizando el programa SPSS V 21. Resultados/Discusión. La elaboración de artículos científicos relacionados con la foto-elicitación en el ámbito de la educación es ascendente desde el año 2008. En cuanto a la distribución de los autores por género, la presencia de mujeres es mayor y más constante que la registrada en otros estudios donde los hombres tienen mayor producción. Las instituciones de adscripción son diversas. Conclusiones. Desde la primera publicación registrada hasta la actualidad este tipo de estudio ha ido aumentando considerablemente, aunque todavía es residual si lo comparamos con otras técnicas de investigación cualitativa como las entrevistas o los grupos de discusión. Originalidad/Valor.
