Sumario:[EN] A change in bone technology takes place in the Mediterranean Spanish littoral with the first appearance of harpoons, some time around 13.500 BP. These are frequently recovered in magdalenian contexts until the first half of the XII millennium BP, although they may possibly last slightly more in certain sites as Cendres. The object of this paper is the set of harpoons found in the Iberian Levant. Unfortunately, we lack the sufficient information to both in coastal (Nerja, Cendres, Higuerón) and interior deposits. Their geographical location does not determine therefore their appearance. This, together with the fact that they can be all included in group A, would imply according to M. Julien that these items have been used for fishing trout or similar size species. We can track remains of seafish in Cendres, Nerja and Caballo when comparing the distribution of harpoons with published regional ictiofaunal analyses. Excluding Nerja, where ictiofaunal remains are really abundant, all sites have a scarce presence of fish remains. Fluvial fishing is almost absent except for Tossal de la Roca, although some evidence can be found in Bora Gran. The Upper Magdalenian Spanish Mediterranean sequence published considers that certain sets in the region – Matutano IIB, IB (Castellón), Malladetes and the lower levels of Tossal de la Roca (Alicante) – cannot be attributed to this phase due to the absence of bone industry, and a lithic industry composition that differs from other contemporary series. In fact, some authors have suggested that these levels had similar features to those of early Epipaleolithic. The recent recovery of a typical Upper Magdalenian one-tier teeth harpoon in the lower levels of Tossal de la Roca (level III), and the five radiocarbon dates obtained (XIII millennium BP), calls for an updated review of the commonly admitted regional variables defining this period, suggesting a wider variability than previously accepted.
