Descrição
Resumo:[eng] The Altarpiece of the Transfiguration of Tortosa Cathedral, a work contracted by Rafael Vergós and Pere Alemany. This article establishes the chronology and authorship of the renowned altarpiece of the Transfiguration of the Tortosa Cathedral, beginning with the agreements that took place in 1498 between the painters Rafael Vergós and Pere Alemany from Barcelona and the Tortosa priest Antonio Alcañiz. Having established the basis of the contract and when it was made, issues strongly debated since the 1920s, we can rule out the direct participation of James Huguet and review the style of the artists involved, especially Rafael Vergós, in the last decade of the fifteenth century. We can then assess the consequences of the new approach to the subject matter with regard to the 'Huguet-Vergós' question. Finally, the paper concludes with some brief thoughts on the particular features of the iconography of these images from Tortosa.
