Description
Summary:Within the framework of this contribution, I would like to explore the distribution of anthroponyms of assonance or translation attested in the onomastics of the inhabitants of the former Phoenician and Punic colonies and settlements in the area of the Strait. The main focus will be on the cities located on the southern shore, mainly in Mauretania Tingitana (Russadir, Lixus, etc.), as a complement to the work on the Hispanic coasts. The aim will be to establish whether certain names are characteristic of this geographical area or whether, on the contrary, the same anthroponyms can be found on both sides of the Strait. What specific phenomena can be detected? What is the impact of the integration into the Roman world, later than that of the nearby Hispanic provinces, on the onomastics of its inhabitants? Briefly, these are just some of the questions raised by this subject.
