| Summary: | For centuries, the United States has been considered a nation of immigration, receiving migrants from diverse origins. However, there is one particular group that has been observed to be increasingly populating the land: Latin Americans. Because of the geographical proximity and the ideal vision of the “American Dream,” thousands of Latinx decide to leave South America every year to achieve better life opportunities. In present times, these numbers have reached a drastic point for which the US have been considered to be under a migratory crisis, threatening overpopulation in some states. This phenomenon can be justified by the oppression experienced by Latinx in some countries where regimes like the one of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela impede its citizens to achieve decent life conditions. Nonetheless, despite the positive effort of the US to aid their neighbors, some aspects must be considered to portray a realistic depiction of how their experience is once they are inside the country. For instance, the facilities and legislations oriented towards their socioeconomic advancement, but also the possible creation of frictions among the North American population due to the proliferation of members from the ethnic minority and how xenophobic attitudes may affect the immigrants at a psychological level. |
