Sumario:The aim of this paper is to offer the main values of the vocative in the Spanish and Asturian languages in some tales belonging to the second half of the 19th century. To do this, after defning the concept of vocative and explaining the features of the corpus, we analyze the different values from a discursive perspective (honorative, salutatory, request, mandate, axiological, exclamatory and literary) which is complemented with a study of special cases from a sociolinguistic perspective: home/muyer and hombre/mujer (gender); papá/mamá and padre/madre (social class); hermana (diachronic and discursive variants) and the use Pardo Bazán makes of the vocatives in some of his texts (style). Among the conclusions, it should be noted that the pragmatic functions are similar in both languages, although the terms are obviously different.
