Description
Summary:[EN] The evolution of a town is an intrinsic characteristic of it; the territory, the climate and the characteristics of the surroundings determine its settlement, its growth and possibly its decline, as well as the occupations of its inhabitants, directly linked to its architecture, the formalisation of which responds to the particular needs of those who live there. The historic centre of Benlloc is, as in many cases, a reflection of society, of tradition, and of the people who live there; an open book that describes what, who, how, and why happened there; a portrait of the memory, of the history of a place, of some people and of a culture. Benlloc's painting depicts the events that have led the village to emptiness, abandonment and estrangement. One senses an escape in search of opportunities for the future, an improvement in the quality of life and new ways of living that has left a sinister and terrifying image of the historic centre, in which the silence in the streets and the noise of the ruins are the protagonists. The village empties out while it expands, the old area is unloaded and the new area is extended. A phenomenon of relocation of the population takes place, driven by the need for accessible, affordable and quality accommodation. The phenomenon of emigration towards other poles, in this case towards the peripheral points and possible expansion of the municipality, consists of a process of relocation whereby the town empties in the older area while it expands in the peripheral area, resulting in the abandonment and emptying of the historic centre with the consequent disappearance of activity and disconnection between these two areas. Architecture is therefore proposed as mediation of the two centralities, acting in the centre of the town through the recovery of the old quarter, the urban regeneration of the space and the re-inhabitation through a project of supervised housing and temporary residence for vocational training students in the area of the airport, which offers opportunities and the consequent production of activity in the area. The project recovers the building tradition with the aim of 'making memory' by enhancing the historical character of the site in an attempt to 'return to the origin', projecting a way of living that resorts to the idea of living in community, where spaces are designed to be shared.
