In response to this issue (and others, like the Memory Wall), the hardware industry shifted its focus to Chip Multicore Processors (CMPs), which integrate multiple cores on a single chip. CMPs have now established themselves as the de facto general-purpose architecture across a broad range of commercial platforms, from embedded and mobile devices to high-end server systems.This thesis proposes a number of scheduling and resource management strategies for multicore processors that have been implemented in the operating system (OS) kernel and runtime system levels.
