Sumario:The characteristics of the Canon Administrative Law have been established a century ago. Anyway, Catholic authorities have carried out, throughout history, a governmental task, separated, more or less clearly, from the contentious cases. Studies on this question are scarce. This contribution tries to determine its characteristics in the diocesan sphere in the period comprehended between the 16th and 18th Centuries. To define this subject, the author uses archival sources from the diocese of Mérida Badajoz. The paper establishes the phases of the governmental proceedings and the documents associated to them. Also, the author uses the files to describe the structure of some of the most usual procedures.
