| Sumario: | The main objective of this work is to design an artificial wetland for the purification of urban wastewater produced in the municipality of Arcos de las salinas (Teruel). At present, a large number of Spanish municipalities pour their waters directly into the rivers without a previous treatment, among which is Arcos de las Salinas. This is due to the large amount of economic resources that are needed for the facilities that have traditionally been implemented in our country both for its execution and for its maintenance. Thus, this project seeks to find an effective alternative to traditional water purification with low economic costs and very simple maintenance. On the other hand, it is important to point out that the European Union Water Framework Directive (DMA), adopted in 2000 and transposed into Spain by Law 62/2003, established 2015 as the limit year for achieving good and adequate conditions Protection of inland, coastal and transitional waters. Something that if the small municipalities do not realize a treatment of the water previous to its pouring is impossible to obtain. This means that despite being a focused project for a specific municipality, it could be extrapolated to others who find themselves in similar situations. As for the design of the artificial wetland to treat wastewater, one of the main points to take into account is the great variation of population that suffers the town. Between November and May it has a population of about 100 people, while between June and October it reaches 1500 inhabitants. For this reason, carrying out a project that takes into account this population would generate an inefficient design since it seeks to find a balance between investment-operating costs and yields, and this situation only occurs a few weeks a year. As mentioned above, the design to be adopted for this purification system will be the one that satisfies the needs of both periods taking into account the variations of population working with similar yields in both cases. It is interesting to note that there are numerous benefits that artificial wetlands can bring to the areas of implementation. The improvement in the quality of the water after the treatment is remarkable, as compared to other water purification facilities have less visual impact and can be easily integrated into the landscape and can serve as places of interest for the study of characteristic flora and fauna of these environments. In short, it is a question of considering that the purpose of this project is not only the purification of the water poured by this municipality but a synergy that seeks to improve the quality of the water state of the river after the passage through the municipality, establish a reference point For future actions in other towns with similar characteristics and to integrate the infrastructure in the village so that even the waste produced can be used for agricultural activities in the area. |
