Descripción
Sumario:Álvaro Navia Osorio y Vigil (1684-1732), third marquis of Santa Cruz de Marcenado, featured broadly in both military and literary fields. His military campaigns in favor of the Bourbon cause during the War of the Spanish Succession, and specially the writing of his Military reflections, are some of his greatest achievements. The influence of his theories, both in the Spanish court and the intellectual circles during his stay in Turin -where he wrote his Reflections and tried to get a project of universal dictionary off the ground, previously to D´Alembert and Diderot’s Encyclopedia- let him to enrich his own work, that became a truly reference book for the Europe of his times. Beyond the reputation of the book inside the Spanish frontiers, the influence of it outside the marquis’ country was still to be studied. The study of the multiple translations of the Reflections or the extension of these around a important part of the European geography (and beyond) helps to understand the role that played at its own time related to the military treatises, and the true impact of its ideas during the centuries after its publication.
