These areas are considered to potentially have the most polluted soils of the region. Phytoecological and soil studies undertaken during the course of these years, both on the sealing soil covers and the soils of disposal areas have revealed certain aspects that could help in the design of restoration measures for these landscapes. Without simply summarising these aspects, we systematically report the main questions addressed: differences between the landfills and reference ecosystems in soil and biodiversity variables; and differences in soil variables among the different landfill slopes. Also examined was the specialisation of the flora to the different ranges and levels of disturbance, and the adaptive strategies developed by herbaceous species colonizing these settings, as revealed by several biological traits.
