Descripción
Sumario:Herpes zoster (HZ) is a common disease with a considerable burden on health care systems. Its prevalence is higher in people > 50 years old, and even higher in people with chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, COPD, asthma or cardiovascular disease. The pain associated with HZ can be disabling and persistent and, as with other complications, can negatively affect patients' quality of life. Vaccination is the only strategy capable of preventing the onset of HZ and the development of its complications. The adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) has proved to be effective in several populations, particularly in patients with chronic diseases. Informing and protecting patients at risk from HZ with RZV requires good coordination between primary and hospital care specialists.
