Descripción
Sumario:[EN] Miquel De Renzi de la Fuente is a Catalan palaeontologist who has conducted much of his research and teaching in Valencia city (Spain), at the Universitat de València, where he was a Professor of Palaeontology. It is difficult to say what has been more important, his research or his role as a teacher. Many Biology students were strongly influenced by his classes in epistemology of Science, Biomorphodynamics and Palaeontology, the latter discipline from a very biological but at the same time deeply multifaceted perspective. Similarly, many of his doctoral students learned to investigate in a historical science that deals on contingent facts. Nowadays, as Emeritus Professor of the Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas of the Universitat de València, with his current office and laboratory at the Instituto Cavanilles de Biodiversidad y Biología Evolutiva, the Spanish community of palaeontologists, grouped in the Sociedad Española de Paleontología, wanted to pay him a tribute by publishing the current volume, of their long-established scientific journal, dedicated in his honour. This is a vision of his teaching and research, without forgetting the human factor, in which his generosity towards his students and colleagues, and his constant willingness to illuminate any aspect of research and the discipline stand out. Ultimately, for colleagues and generations of students and doctoral candidates, Miquel De Renzi is considered a remarkable scholar of the complex evolutionary process, and moreover, a friend.
