This brief review highlights recent developments that have transformed PAAm hydrogels from simple 2D static elastic hydrogels to complex ECM-mimicking systems involving protein micropatterning, mechanical patterning, stretching, DNA tension probes, viscoelasticity, and the microfabrication of 3D systems.
