Descrição
Resumo:Innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) face serious obstacles in their innovation processes because of the high costs of innovations, lack of commercial and managerial competencies, and difficulties in cooperating with industrial agents. Understanding the evolution of these obstacles and the ways social and institutional ecosystems can reduce them becomes crucial for managers and policy‐makers. This research examines the evolution of different types of obstacles innovative SMEs face, and to analyze the effects of social and institutional ecosystems in reducing these obstacles during 2010-2014. Linear mixed models are used to analyze the evolution of the obstacles and ecosystems encountered by Spanish innovative SMEs. The results indicate that different obstacles do not fall into the same pattern over time. In addition, we found that the role played by agents of social and/or institutional ecosystems in reducing different obstacles to innovation processes could be linked to the tendency of these obstacles to diminish over time.
