| Sumario: | Background. This study describes the protocol for a randomized, single-blind, controlled experimental clinical trial evaluating an osteopathic manipulative treatment approach algorithm for temporomandibular dysfunctions in patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Nowadays, fibromyalgia is the rheumatic disorder with the highest levels of deterioration in quality of life. Among the comorbidities it presents, one of the most frequent is temporomandibular disorders. Despite the proven effectiveness of manual therapy, only a small part of the population has resorted to it as a complementary treatment. Objectives. To assess the benefits of the application of an osteopathic manipulative treatment approach algorithm for temporomandibular dysfunctions in a population of patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Methods. A randomized, single-blind, controlled experimental clinical trial protocol. In which two groups of patients with fibromyalgia and temporomandibular disorders will be compared, an experimental group that will be treated following an algorithm of temporomandibular dysfunctions approach with osteopathic manipulative treatment and a placebo group that will undergo a simulated treatment. All statistical analysis will be carried out following the intention-to-treat principles. Trial significance. This study describes the protocol for a randomized, single-blind, controlled experimental clinical trial evaluating an osteopathic manipulative treatment approach algorithm for temporomandibular dysfunctions in patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The creation and validation of this type of tools in this field of application is necessary. |
