| Sumario: | [EN] The main aim of this study is to provide estimates of the survival/mortality ratios of shortfin mako specimens released/discarded by the Spanish fleet operating in the ICCAT area for the northern and southern stocks during the years 2018-2022. The estimates are derived from the proportions of live and dead shortfin mako specimens recorded in the Electronic Logbook (Diario Electrónico de Abordo, DEA) based on data collected by the Spanish General Fisheries Secretariat's onboard observer program in 2021 and 2022. For the northern stock, the observed proportions of discarded shortfin mako specimens, both alive and dead, were consistent at 0.36 and 0.64 for the years 2021 and 2022, respectively. As for the southern stock, due to a significant number of unknown outcomes, only the proportion of live and dead specimens for the year 2022 was estimated, yielding values of 0.32 and 0.68, respectively. These estimates of shortfin mako specimens' fate demonstrated high consistency in the proportion of live and dead shortfin makos recorded by the observer program for the northern stock in 2021 and 2022. |
