| Sumario: | [EN] The 1922 competition to design the Chicago Tribune tower was a major event in the architectural scene of the day. It pitted new emerging ideas against more conservative styles. The two hundred and eighty-one entries reflected the vast array of contrasting designs that were submitted, forming an extensive and complete catalogue of the architecture of that period, an architectural inventory that continues to have an iconographic presence today. The importance of this competition is evident in its continuity over time, through three separate and contrasting iterations, in 1949, 1980 and 2017. Each moment may be defined by a single concept renewal, recreation, transgression, speculation in the light of which the competition and its subsequent iterations will be analysed. |
