Sumario:[EN] This article examines the debates developed in two contexts: América Indígena journal and the indigenista sphere on the one hand and u n e s c o and the discussion following World War II on the other, both emblematic of the disputes over the concept of race in the mid-20th century. Due to their contents and scope, these debates have a significance that goes beyond the circumstances in which they took place, although few periods have been as propitious for these controversies as the 1940s and 1950s
