Sumario:The 72% of the province of Tucumán (Argentina) is occupied by part of the Sali river basin. The regional economy is located in this area and depends, directly or indirectly, of their water resources. In different periods of the year, the drainage network of the Salí river basin has been monitored in 36 sampling stations. The monitoring has been performed on pH, Eh, specific conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, Na, Mg, Si, K, Ca, SO42-, Cl-, HCO3-, P, Li, Be, B, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Br, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Te, I, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb, Hf, Ta, W, Au, Hg, Tl, Pb, Bi, Th and U. The interaction of water precipitation with the local geological setting mainly determines the surface water composition of the Salí river basin. This aspect allows to distinguish three subbasins: northern and central-eastern subbasin, central sub-basin and southern subbasin. The water composition changes drastically through the time due to the combination of the spatial and the seasonal variabilities. In addition, the local anthropogenic activities increase the concentrations of K, P, Mn, Rb and Pb. These inputs change also through the time. Taking into account the drinking water quality thresholds, some times the regulated values for Cl-, Na and SO42- are exceeded in some places for determined periods of time. By other hand, Al, Fe and Mn concentrations exceed their respective thresholds in many places of the basin.
