The method is applied to a set of charcoal samples recovered in different archaeological sites from the western Mediterranean area, identified as Pinus halepensis and Quercus sp. evergreen. The method provides unambiguous discrimination between these two types of charcoal and allows the construction of age calibration graphs for dating charcoals from Pinus halepensis and Quercus evergreen species.
