Monthly surface seawater samples were collected over 41 months (April 2013–August 2016) and size-fractionated into small (0.22–3 µm) and large (>3 µm) fractions. DNA was extracted and PCR amplified targeting the V4–V5 region (Parada et al. 2016) of the 16S rRNA gene, followed by Illumina sequencing. The ASVs were generated and taxonomically assigned using the DADA2 pipeline (Callahan et al., 2016) with the SILVA v.138 database (Quast et al., 2013)The EAMO data were generated with funds from FAPESP (process #2014/13139-3), CNPq (process 474759/2013-0), and the Brazilian Science Without Borders Program (BJT 013/2012; PVE 400313-2014-6).
