Sumario:[EN] Aim: To examine the association between social participation and successful aging in a representative sample of Chilean elderly people. Method: A sample of 777 Chilean elderly people. An inventory of Successful Aging (SAI) was used and all the subjects of the sample signed a letter of consent. Bivariate analyses were performed (test t Student for independent sample and χ2 test) through SPSS programs (version 23). Results: Confirmed association between social participation and successful aging, also the results show statistically significant differences between elderly people who participate and those who do not participate in the process of aging successfully. Tose involved in social groups age successfully. Conclusions: Social participation is a psychosocial relevant resource in gerontological social intervention, given its positive association with the overall well-being of elderly people
