| Sumario: | This article does not stop being one more piece in a huge puzzle, composed by a multitude of activities that are being celebrated throughout this year 2017, on the occasion of the commemoration of the V centennial of the death of the cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, who was a prelate, a politician, a military man and, above all, a statesman, who left a deep trace of his passage through Spain, including, obviously, the lands that now make up the Community of Madrid. Cisneros was able to unite the Franciscan sackcloth and the purple cardinal, with his service to the Hispanic Monarchy, being twice regent of the Crown of Castile, precisely at a historical moment in which they were modeling the bases of what soon would be the State Modern. All this, without doubt, would end up making the Franciscan the first statesman of the Spanish Renaissance. |
