| Sumario: | This article presents the figure of Ismael Sánchez Bella, his academic career and his contribution to the History of Law. Ismael Sánchez Bella is considered one of the greatest exponents of Spanish American Legal History of the Twentieth Century thanks to his important contributions to the field, both in terms of its resources (which highlight the discovery of the Compilation of Indian Laws of León Pinelo), and its institutions (Public Finance, inspections, Church-State relations, and the like). Prof. Sánchez Bella’s admiration for the Spanish plural Monarchy, in which the people of the Indias took part during the Modern Age, led him to promote the study of the resources and institutions of the old kingdom of Navarre, which he saw as an exemplary lesson for Spain’s future: a new era of compatibility uniting the individuality and diversity of Spain’s various territories. |
