De la vigencia de dicho fenómeno en Aragón hasta bien entrado el siglo XX dan cuenta las entrevistas en Fraga (Huesca) con varios informantes acerca de la llamada “Fiesta de la Tarántula”: una forma comunitaria de exorcizar todo tipo de desgracias individuales, gracias al poder de la compasión y la solidaridad vecinal.[EN] Tarantism (a mythically-based, ritualized reaction to the bite of the dreaded tarantula in the belief that the victim could only be cured by music and dance) had existed in Italy since time immemorial; yet it manifested itself also in Spain, where it has been far less studied, at least from the perspective of cultural history.
