Despite fundamental differences between Christian (voluntary) and Islamic (obligatory) pilgrimage, both traditions resorted to delegation when individuals passed away without fulfilling this obligation. This practice, documented in Christian wills and Islamic pilgrimage certificates dated between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries, has traditionally been studied separately. However, when analyzed together, it reveals a common origin based on eschatology, and strikingly similar case studies. This article seeks to bring together the available sources and documentation to elucidate the similarities and differences in the process of conducting post-mortem pilgrimages in both faiths.[ES] La utilización de delegados para realizar peregrinaciones a lugares sagrados fue una práctica común durante la Edad Media tanto entre los creyentes cristianos como musulmanes. This article has been partially carried out within the framework of the postdoctoral contract Margarita Salas (Funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU, and the Spanish Ministry of Universities and Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through a call from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona), as well as with the support of the project «Looking for the context of fragmentary texts: zooming in and out on papyrus fragments from the Spanish collections» (PID2021-125950NB-C21), funded by MCIU/AEI/FEDER, EUPeer reviewedConsejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (España)European CommissionMinisterio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (España)Agencia Estatal de Investigación (España)Carro Martín, Sergio [0000-0002-9455-3567]Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas [https://ror.org/02gfc7t72]202620262025info:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Publisher's versioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttps://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/10261/422531reponame:DIGITAL.CSIC.
