Resumo:This paper analyses female agricultural labour in prehistoric communities, using ethnographic and ar-chaeological data. This work is opposed to conven-tional evolutionist approaches, which suggests that women’s work became less relevant with the introduc-tion of the plough. By contrast, this study focuses on the importance of a diverse set of variables that affect the methods and time dedicated to agricultural labour by women. Given the relative scarcity of archaeolo-gical data and contexts on gender-based agricultural work, the author uses a variety of data sources such as iconographic representations, funerary contexts and skeleton material to obtain new archaeological inter-pretation on the subject.
